* Under what conditions do tomato flowers pollinate best?
The tomato is a self-pollinating plant. Tomato pollen is heavy and poorly carried by the wind, so it falls on the stigma of the pistil of the same flower 2-3 days before the ovules mature. This is very important to consider when obtaining hybrid seeds. For seeds to form, stamens with immature pollen are removed from the flower, and it is pollinated with pollen taken from a flower of another variety. Fertilization of the flower occurs at an air temperature of +24...+32°C. A lower or higher temperature leads to a disruption of pollination. At a high temperature (over +32°C), the pistil elongates above the stamens, and pollination does not occur.
